Crab Orchard Man Wins $20,000 Playing Powerball with Power Play
May 14, 2008 – Steven Wehmer of Crab Orchard recently turned a $10,000 prize into $20,000 by adding Power Play to his Powerball purchase.
Wehmer purchased a five-play quick pick ticket for the May 7 drawing at Casey's General Store, 1001 I Street in Palmyra. The ticket contained four of the five winning white ball numbers (9, 25, 26, 28, 42) and the Powerball number (26) for a $10,000 prize.
Because he added the $1 Power Play option, Wehmer’s prize was multiplied by the Power Play multiplier of two for a total of $20,000.
While claiming his prize, Wehmer told Nebraska Lottery officials that he started purchasing Powerball with Power Play tickets during the April Power Play 10X promotion and continued purchasing tickets after the promotion ended on April 30. He plans to pay bills using his winnings.
The odds of winning a $10,000 Powerball prize are 1 in 584,432. Adding the $1 Power Play option, which does not affect the odds of winning, gives players a 1 in 4 chance at multiplying their winnings between 2 and 5 times.
