Richard Evans of Lincoln won a total of $1,000,008 playing Mega Millions with Megaplier from the Nebraska Lottery.

There were more than 10,000 Nebraska Lottery winners in the Tuesday, March 15, drawings. Among these winners was Evans, who purchased a five-play quick pick Mega Millions ticket at Buggy Bath West, 1502 West O Street in Lincoln. One play on the ticket matched all five of the winning white ball numbers (10, 11, 12, 28, 43) for $250,000. A second play on the ticket matched the winning Mega Ball® number (45) for $2.

Because Evans added the $1 Megaplier option to his purchase, his $250,002 prize was multiplied by the 4x Megaplier for a total prize of $1,000,008. This is the first $1 million prize won in Nebraska since the Nebraska Lottery began offering the Mega Millions game in March 2010.

Evans wasted no time in claiming his prize, arriving at Nebraska Lottery headquarters on Wednesday morning following the drawing.  He told Nebraska Lottery officials that he learned he had won after checking the winning numbers in the Lincoln Journal Star newspaper, and at the Nebraska Lottery website, nelottery.com. “I didn’t believe it at first, but then I saw on the website that there was a million dollar winner,” said Evans. “I told my wife, ‘I don’t think I’m going to work today. I won a million dollars.’ She didn’t believe me.” Evans plans to pay bills and save for retirement using his winnings.

The odds of winning $250,000 playing Mega Millions are 1 in 3,904,701, and the odds of winning $2 are 1 in 75. Adding the $1 Megaplier option, which does not affect your chances of winning, gives players the chance to multiply prizes between $2 and $250,000 as many as two, three, or four times. The Match 5 prize is guaranteed to always draw the 4x multiplier, giving players the chance to turn a $250,000 prize into a $1 million prize when purchasing the Megaplier option. The overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 40.
