This Prize Is No Dog

October 2, 2006 – Before Rodney Mason of Bellevue drove to Illinois on September 16 he stopped to buy a Nebraska Pick 5 ticket for that night's drawing.

Mason, who breeds and shows Bulldogs, was on his way to Illinois to pick up a new puppy. When Mason returned to Nebraska, he stopped at a Nebraska Lottery retailer to check the ticket and learned that he had matched all five of the winning numbers to win the jackpot of $82,000.

Mason purchased his winning Nebraska Pick 5 ticket, consisting of five quick pick plays, at DGR Quick Pik, 10209 South 25th Street in Bellevue.

The winning numbers in the September 16 drawing were 01, 04, 15, 18 and 22.

As he claimed his prize at Nebraska Lottery headquarters, Mason told Nebraska Lottery officials that he felt that the new Bulldog had brought him luck and that he should be appropriately named.

"Jackpot" joins a group of other Bulldogs that Mason and his family breed and show.

As for his plans for the prize, Mason said some of the money will go to his children’s college fund and some for home improvements.

The Nebraska Pick 5 jackpot begins at $50,000 and grows until it is won. The odds of winning the Nebraska Pick 5 jackpot are 1 in 501,942. The overall odds of winning anything playing the game are 1 in 8.
